信(Xin)、达(Da)、雅(Ya) were proposed by the modern Chinese translator Yan Fu.
信(Xin) means to be faithful to the original text without falsehoods or bias.
达(Da) means that the information should be clear and fluent.
雅(Ya) is the addition of the above two, with appropriate word choice and elegant expressions.
